After 15 years of living in Phuket, Thailand, I feel it is now time to return to the UK. The main reason for this is that my son will be 7 years old later this year and I think he deserves a better education than any school in Thailand can provide.
Schools in Phuket and Thailand generally are not renowned for a good standard of education. They are also expensive and many are more interested in making money than providing for the children’s future requirements.
Since the age of 4 my son Matthew has been attending a small school, operated by a qualified teacher from India in Phuket. Unfortunately he will have to leave the current school as the teacher is relocating to Europe later this year.
At first I was unsure what to do regarding Matthew’s education but after much thought, I have decided that it’s only fair for us to leave Thailand and enroll for a school in the UK.
As Matthew’s current teacher will soon be studying in Sheffield UK and her children will be attending a school there, we have set our sights on living there in the near future. I also have family living not too far away and will be able to visit more often.Thinking of relocating or know someone who is? Share this post with your followers on Twitter.Click To Tweet
Ringmania’s return to the UK
Ringmania is now solely an online business. It should not be affected by these plans and will still operate independently. I may at some point in the future decide to add an online shop in order to sell products independently from affiliates. I also still own Hairmania and a few other websites which I may re-open in the future. Living in the UK will mean that I can despatch items more quickly than I am currently able to while based in Thailand.
I have many plans for the future, however the immediate priority is for me to find a job in the UK in order to pay rent on a house and living expenses. From there I can then look for a suitable school and hopefully enroll Matthew to start in September this year. I’m sure it will be a big shock to me after being away for so long but at least my son will have the chance of a better future.
Our business in Phuket, Thailand
My wife Koy will also be traveling to England with us but as she still has a business in Phuket, she does not intend to stay in the long term. As soon as we have arranged schooling and settled into the UK way of life, she will return to Phuket to begin a new season at Seaside Cottages.
Currently, I am searching for suitable employment in or around Sheffield. In addition to owning Ringmania, I am a qualified Electronics Engineer, Former Musician and Website Designer. I’m sure there will be something available for me that will keep the wolf from the door and really looking forward to returning to reality and being able to work again.
Living in paradise
Living in paradise is not all that it’s made out to be. Some people may be happy just sitting in a remote beach with only the sound of nature in the hot sun to put up with. However there are still everyday problems to attend to which you will get almost anywhere in the world. I have spent the last few years looking after my son and making sure that he gets to school on time. That is at least a 40 minute drive on a good day. I expect that situation to change dramatically and will be setting up home a bit closer to any school that is available in the UK.
Back to the future
So far, finding a job and a place to live has not been an easy task as I can only apply online. There seems to be many options available but I feel that I need to actually be in the area to achieve any great success. We plan to travel to England shortly after Matthew finishes the current term at school which is the end of June.
I have been in touch with Sheffield City Council and as I suspected, before enrolling for a place in any school, I need proof of address. In order to get that I will need to rent a house and get a job first so that I can pay for it. Nothing is ever easy but I am determined to make it all go according to plan. Watch this space for updates.
