I had been anti WordPress ever since I first saw websites that were built using the platform and in the past wouldn’t even consider using it myself. However times have changed and I realize now what I had been missing.
The old site
Previously, ringmania.com was built using a template from W3C Schools almost totally using a simple text editor. I took me months to perfect everything. I became obsessed with perfection and if the html did not show as perfect in any validation, I would spend hours getting it right.
All my work seemed to be futile as far as ranking in search engines was concerned. Whatever I changed made absolutely no difference to the amount of traffic I was receiving.
Judging the competition.
Looking at similar sites, I noticed that most were full of errors, especially the ones built with WordPress and other CMS platforms. Naturally I was discouraged from using the platform even more than ever.
It wasn’t until I was asked to update a friends website, that I would consider using anything other than what I was accustomed to.
I must admit that at first when I started editing my friend’s site I was impressed by how easy it was working with WordPress compared to using something like Notepad.
I tried out several different themes until we found one that we were both happy with. Even after the first day of using the WordPress platform, I think I was probably hooked and my enthusiasm for building websites was restored.
Time for an update
Since that first encounter which was only last year, I have built many websites using WordPress and perhaps, I am now a dedicated fan.
However, I do feel that there is little to choose between available themes and all WordPress sites look much the same.
It doesn’t seem to matter if a website is perfect or not. I rarely check my sites now for incorrect html and can even overlook some errors without working into the early hours to make things perfect.

If you have time I would greatly appreciate some feedback. Please let me know your opinion of the site by leaving a comment below. Don’t forget to include your website address if you have one. You will get a free link from this site.
There’s no substitute for hard work
I realized a long time ago that there is no easy way to be successful online. To achieve your goals, you have to work at it as in any other business. When I first started selling jewellery online almost 20 years ago, I was lucky. There was very little competition and I managed a very successful business with comparatively little effort.
These days, things are very different and I am under no illusions. Almost daily, I hear of other people’s success or failure in building their online business. Even simple everyday tasks are more difficult now as communication and cheap technology become more widespread. Competing to get to the front of the queue or top of the class now requires a lot more effort compared with the late 1990s
Here’s to the future
So in conclusion, the popularity of Ringmania is certainly improving and I still have a lot of work to do if I want to get anywhere near my former success. Watch this space!
